Say it isn’t so! Another Once Upon a Time star is leaving Storybrooke, and we’re not ready for all of this change!

Rebecca Mader, who plays the the Wicked Witch, is set to exit  Once Upon a Time after season 6.

The actress announced her departure on Instagram on Thursday (May 12) night.

“To my Darling Pretties, First of all I would like to start by congratulating Adam, Eddie, Lana, Bobby and Colin on the pick up of Once Upon A Time! I am truly happy for you all and most importantly for the fans that will get to keep tuning in each week to see where they will take us,” she began her letter to her fans.

With Once Upon a Time officially getting a season 7 pick-up by ABC, Mader fielded questions about why she didn’t decide to stick around for awhile longer. The actress explained that the decision to leave the drama now was not her choice.

“A lot of you have been asking if I will be joining everyone in season 7, so I wanted to let you know personally that unfortunately I am not. This wasn’t my choice but a creative decision of the show’s that I totally respect and Understand,” she explained. “The most important thing is that you all know how much you mean to me.”

This wasn't my choice but a creative decision of the shows that I totally respect and understand. The most important thing is that you all know how much you mean to me. I am told frequently both online and in person that by being a part of such a special show I have in some way changed someone's life. This is hugely meaningful to me. I am here to let you know that I am the one who has been changed. Not just by playing such a well written multi-dimensional character but by the fandom itself. I have heard your stories, your pain, your struggles, your achievements and I have truly felt you. I have learned. I have grown. I am a better person because of you, the fans and everyone that blessed me with this opportunity to play such an iconic role. Congrats all and thank you! I look forward to the next. I invite you to come with me on this journey. I am forever changed. And I'm wicked. And Wicked Always Wins. Forever yours, Bex 💚

She ended on a happy note with another big congratulations to her OUAT family.

“Congrats all and thank you! I look forward to the next. I invite you to come with me on this journey. I am forever changed. And I’m wicked. And Wicked Always Wins. Forever yours,
Bex,” she concluded.

This is the second big cast departure following Jennifer Morrison, who previously revealed that she would not be returning as Emma Swan for Season 7.

We are a little bit upset that Mader didn’t seem to have a choice in whether or not she would be her wicked self next season, but at least we got to have her as a series regular for two whole seasons before she left.

Plus, since OUAT was officially picked up for season 7 on Thursday, we can’t be too upset that there are some casting changes.

That being said, what characters are you hoping come back next season? Are you more upset to see Emma Swan or Zelena leave Storybrooke?

This post has been updated to note that Rebecca plays the Wicked Witch, not the Evil Queen. Once Upon a Time’s two-hour season 6 finale airs on Sunday May 14, at 8 p.m. on ABC.
