New Girl fans rejoice, because the hit comedy is getting one more season!

On Sunday (May 14), Fox announced that New Girl will be returning for one final season. However, the news came with a bit of a catch: The seventh season will also be the series’ last as the comedy gears up to say goodbye for good.

It is definitely bittersweet knowing that season 7 will be the last for the loft crew, but at least we get a few more episodes before officially saying goodbye to Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and her crazy, cool BFFs.

“It’s time to put on your cowboy hats and get down, #NewGirl fans. The loft-mates are coming BACK for Season 7! 🙌,” Fox’s New Girl Twitter account wrote over the weekend confirming the pick up news.

According to numerous publications including TV Line, and one of the show’s key characters, Jake Johnson, who plays Nick, the next installment of New Girl will be much shorter. It will be comprised of only eight episodes, but really, who’s counting?

“#NewGirl has been picked up for 8 final episodes! Very excited to be able to finish what we started,” Johnson tweeted.

Sure, a full-run would be better than only eight episodes, but we’ll take anything from the comedy as long as we get to see what happened after those elevator doors closed on the season 6 finale. If you’ve already watched it, you know exactly what we’re talking about!

Lamorne Morris, or Winston Bishop as we all know him, was just as excited as we are about the news and took to Twitter to share his joy. “It’s OFFICIAL NEW GIRL SEASON 7!!!!” he wrote.

Hannah Simone, who plays Cece, Schmidt’s wife, on the other hand chose to share a picture of the cast from Season 1 and it’s too cute!

“6 years ago these clowns came together for the first time,” she wrote along with a photo of the cast. “This fall we will kick off our 7th season and shoot our final 8 episodes.”

Okay, despite the fact that eight episodes isn’t a lot, the fact that we’re going to get some closure makes us so happy. We cannot wait to see what happens when New Girl returns for it’s last hurrah!
