Great news for fans of Timeless! NBC has decided to renew the series for a second season after all!
According to TV Line, the decision to move forward with season 2 comes just days after NBC initially announced plans to nix the time travel drama after just one season. Shortly after the network announced the series had been cancelled, creators Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke took to To let fans know that they were in the process of trying to find a new home for the show. Now, we can rest easy knowing that we won’t have to cross our fingers for another network to swoop in and save one of our new favorite shows.
Shortly after NBC decided to reconsider, series star Matt Latner took to Facebook to let fans in on the great news.
“I just wanted to hop on and tell you that I thin the mission was successful,” said Latner, in character as his on-screen alter ego Wyatt Logan. “We went back, and I’m pretty sure we changed NBC’s minds. So yeah, we’ve got more episodes coming. See you real soon.”
After the big announcement, Latner took to Twitter to thank fans for all the hard work they put into campaigning for Timeless to get picked up for a second season.
“Mission #ResucitateTimeless completed. Couldn’t have done it without you!!! NBC heard your cries and changed their minds! We’re baaaaack,” tweeted Latner.
Later wasn’t the only one who took to social media to celebrate the good news. Shortly after, Timeless star Abigail Spencer also took to Twitter to share how special it was for her to discover the series had been picked up after all.
“I have been in this business for almost 20 years & never have I ever experience anything like what has happened today and this week,” wrote Spencer. “I have never seen a show be cancelled & but days later renewed because of just general love from the people involved & the fans. So THANK YOU!!! Bob Greenblatt, Jen Salke & everyone at @nbc & @sony for this gift. Thank you @ShawnRyanTV & @therealKripke for fighting! Thank you to @MattLatner @malcombarrett @JustDoumit @sanikajaff #patersonjoseph #GoranVisnjic & our entire cast for being awesome! our writers & entire creative team for being rad and doing the impossible…AND most of all our #Timeless fans!!! YOU DID THIS!” wrote Spencer.
Meanwhile, actor Malcolm Barrett took a sillier approach.
“Been off the internet all day. Anything new happen…?” tweeted Barrett.
Meanwhile, showrunner Eric Kripke shared a few more details as to what we can expect from Timeless’ second season.
“The #TimeTeam went back 3 days, and changed history. @nbc picked us up for 10 episodes. Seriously. Airs next summer. #TimelessRenewed,” tweeted Kripke on Saturday (May 13). “Correction. Info moving fast. We’re airing sometime in 2018, not sure when but we’re airing!”
Finally, Kripke’s fellow co-creator, Shawn Ryan, took to Twitter to let fans know just how big of a role they played in changing the fate of Timeless.
“It’s true! NBC heard from the fans, went back in time and changed history! #Timeless is getting a Season 2 #TimelessResucitated!,” tweeted Ryan. “This isn’t a joke! They legit heard from the fans and changed their minds! Can’t thank the #Timeless fans enough for fighting so hard for us online and spreading the word about the show. Can’t wait to show you more.”
If Timeless has taught us anything it’s that we should never underestimate the power of fandom! We’re happy to hear that NBC made the right decision to bring the series back and can’t wait to see what’s in store for season 2!
