Alex Parish will live to see another mission.
ABC has decided to renew Quantico for another season — however, there’s a disappointing catch. Variety reports that the third season of the drama — which stars two-time People’s Choice Award winner Priyanka Chopra as a special agent — will only consist of 13 episodes, as opposed to the usual 21. And that’s not the only major change hitting the series. Creator Josh Safran will be exiting as showrunner ahead of the upcoming season (although, he won’t be gone completely — according to Variety, he’ll continue to consult).
On the heels of the season two finale, which aired on Monday (May 15), Chopra took to Twitter to react to the renewal.
“So excited about the season 3 pick up for #Quantico congrats to everyone who made it happen! #AlexParrish will be back soon..,” Chopra wrote on Twitter after the news was made official.
While there’s no word yet on what’s ahead for the agents in season 3, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly ahead of the season two finale, Safran revealed what he’d like to see in the next chapter of Alex’s story.
“All I can say [for a potential season 3 storyline] is that if it were up to me, I would look at it more like the back nine [episodes], basically that Alex and her team would need to keep the very precarious balance that is in the world that’s tipping us toward war,” Safran told Entertainment Weekly’s Shirley Li.
This is not the first time Quantico has gone through a major shift between seasons. Last year, the drama — which costars Blair Underwood and Jake McLaughlin — decided to ditch the flashback format that it heavily relied on in season one, and revamp with a time-jump to kick-off season 2. Given the renewal — it looks like those changes paid off.
Are you excited Quantico is coming back for season 3? Where do you want the series to go when it returns?
