Get ready for a double dose of drama, Grey’s Anatomy fans.
On Tuesday (May 17), ABC announced that its long-awaited Grey’s Anatomy spinoff series is officially a go.
Exec produced by Grey’s creator Shonda Rhimes, the new series will not focus around one of the doctors from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital — but it will take place in Seattle and therefore you can bet there will be crossover at some point. (Paging Meredith Grey!)
“Set in a Seattle firehouse, the latest series from the executive producers of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder follows a group of heroic firefighters. From the captain to the newest recruit, we follow these brave men and women as they risk their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock,” the ABC press release explained.
A drama set around a firehouse? We are SO ready for this. Think the world of Chicago Fire, but with a Grey’s twist, and created by the one-and-only, Rhimes. What could be better?
“No one can interweave the jeopardy firefighters face in the line of duty with the drama in their personal lives quite like Shonda, and Grey’s signature Seattle setting is the perfect backdrop for this exciting spinoff,” ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said in the statement.
We can only imagine what will happen when lives are at stake and drama is high at this firehouse. Seriously, our heads are already full of possible storylines, and it’s so exciting.
There is currently no title set for the new drama, but it will be written by Stacy McKee and both Rhimes and Betsy Beers are set to be the executive producers.
What do you think about a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff series? Will you be tuning in?
