We finally have a look at what The CW’s Black Lightning series and it certainly lives up to the superhero hype!

The CW released the first trailer for its new superhero series during its Upfronts presentation on on Thursday (May 18).

The trailer opens with a voiceover from Black Lightning’s daughter, Anissa, who describes her father as a hero who streets and and schools safe.”

“He was hope personified, but he was also Jefferson Pierce, my father,” Anissa says, as we see an injured Black Lightning recovering from a gunshot wound.

Eventually, Black Lightning (Cress Williams) decided to hang up his hero suit to be Jefferson Pierce, a full-time father and principal. But without Black Lightning the city started to fall into chaos. After his daughters’ lives are put into jeopardy one too many times, Black Lightning decides to rise again.

Throughout the trailer we see the journey of Jefferson aka Black Lightning from his heyday in 2005 to his “normal” life from then until 2017. We also see the violence in town eating him up inside as he stands by and lets it happen.

“A retired hero will rise again,” the screen reads and rise he does. Black Lightning has a new high-tech suit, the support of his wife Lynn (Christine Adams) and daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain), and a city to rid of evil.

We also see a lot of killer battles where Black Lightning is back in charge and kicking butt.

“Justice walks like thunder, strikes like lightning, and runs in the family,” the screen reads giving us chills.

Black Lightning is back and his whole family is ready to fight this time around. Both of his girls are super fast, and based on the clip, Jennifer has glimpses of powers as well. It’s now a family affair and you better watch out!

Black Lightning doesn’t have an official premiere date, but we will keep you updated once The CW announces it.
