The wait is finally over, Star Trek  fans. On Wednesday (May 18), CBS finally released the first trailer for its upcoming series, Star Trek: Discovery!

After nearly two decades off the air, Stark Trek is finally coming back to TV and not a minute too soon. Fans are going to freak out over this epic trailer for the upcoming drama series and we don’t blame them, it’s been a long time coming.

The teaser opens with First Officer Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green ) and Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) walking aimlessly in the desert.

“Ten years before Kirk, Spock and the Enterprise, there was Discovery,” the screen reads.

As they are walking in the desert, Captain Georgiou tells Burnham that it’s time for her to go her own way and command her first ship. We then see a starship appear out of the clouds and the two are beamed up.

Next, we see Burnham at the helm of her spacecraft trying to lead the rest of her team as they face a LOT of dangers. They come across the Klingon Empire (obviously) and must fight, but will everyone listen to her? Is she wise enough and ready for the challenge?

The teaser also shows everyone in snazzy new Starfleet uniforms, and introduces us to many characters including Jason Isaac as Captain Lorca, and Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, an alien Starfleet Science Officer who was created to sense oncoming death.

Star Trek: Discovery — which is actually a prequel to the original series, which starred Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner and DeForest Kelley, amongst others — will consist of 15 episodes. The show is set a decade before the 1966 events you know and love from the first show.

After this impressive debut trailer, we have no doubt Trekkies far-and-wide are anxiously awaiting the series’ premiere.

Fans will be able to watch Star Trek: Discovery exclusively on CBS All Access later this year.
