Cabello recently stopped by Beats 1 where she opened up about how Zayn Malik’s exit from One Direction impacted her as both a fan and as an artist. Like Cabello, Malik chose to part ways with his band in order to pursue a solo career. While Cabello said her decision to leave Fifth Harmony wasn’t directly impacted by Malik, she praised the “Pillow Talk” singer immensely for striking out on his own.
“I don’t think that influenced my decision, but I was definitely like, ‘You go, Zayn!’ Because when ‘Pillow Talk’ came out, I was like, ’This is so good!’” said Cabello of Malik’s exit from 1D. “I I liked that it was so different than anything that One Direction had done.”
Cabello also revealed that she’s a huge fan of One Direction and even cited the band as a motivator in what ultimately lead her to audition for The X-Factor. In fact, the band means so much to her that Cabello confessed to getting quite emotional when she heard Zayn had decided to leave.
“I cried, I’m not going to lie. Because it’s the end of an era,” explained Cabello. “It’s the end of something really beautiful that inspired so many people. It was a dream, just like Fifth Harmony, the five of us were a dream to our fans.”
While Cabello understands that shakeups like this are hard to stomach, she also stressed that they can be incredibly exciting as well— especially when it comes to experiencing your favorite bands as individual artists instead of just one cohesive unit.

While we’re still sad over what transpired between Ffith Harmony and Camila Cabello, we’ve got to agree with the “Bad Things” singer. It’s definitely an exciting time to be following both Cabello and 5H, and we can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for us this year!
