‘SpongeBob SquarePants’ Gets Picked Up For Season 12 On Nickelodeon

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? A very successful TV show about a sponge, duh!

On Tuesday (May 23), Nickelodeon announced that the creatures from Bikini Bottom will be coming back for season 12 in 2019! This is crazy, good news, because 2019 also marks 20 years of SpongeBob SquarePants on TV. Yes, 20 years of SpongeBob, Patrick Star, Mr. Krabs and Squidward, can you believe it?

This news calls for a Krabby Patty feast, and re-watching as much of the TV series as possible before its return. 2019 might be far away, but Season 11 of the hit series premieres this summer, so you if you want to watch every episode from the beginning (there are currently 239 episodes), you don’t have that much time… sorry.

You can always watch the two SpongeBob SquarePants movies in celebration of the pickup, because let’s be honest, no one could’ve guessed a cartoon about a sponge who lives in a pineapple with a snail as a pet would be so successful.

In case this renewal isn’t enough to rejoice about come 2019, the third SpongeBob film is set to hit theaters that same year. Clearly, 2019 has been designed for all you goofy goober lovers and it’s so exciting.

“I’m one lucky airbreather to be the voice of Stephen Hillenburg’s briny brainchild! This pickup is great news for me and my pliable poriferan pal!” Tom Kenny (aka SpongeBob himself) said in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

“SpongeBob may be square, but he keeps on rolling right along!” he added.

SpongeBob SquarePants returns for its 11th Season on June 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. on Nickelodeon.
