Ed Westwick might be going back in time (to 1983) on his new TV series, White Gold, but would he ever revisit his former Gossip Girl character? Based on a recent interview with Radio Times, it’s not looking so good for GG fans.
Thanks to his bad boy-with-a-occasional-heart-of-gold persona, Westwick’s character, Chuck Bass, quickly became a fan favorite on the series, but the actor isn’t eager to reprise that role anytime soon…or maybe ever.
“I know there’s a bunch of them coming back — I hear they’re doing Will & Grace, they’ve done Gilmore Girls… But it’s such a strange thing to think about,” Westwick told Radio Times when asked about a Gossip Girl comeback. “It feels like we only just finished!”
The series did only wrap four years ago in 2012, so Westwick’s need to break away from Chuck Bass makes sense, even if it’s not the answer all you GG fans want to hear.
“And I haven’t done enough in between yet to feel like I could comfortably revisit it. And I did so much with that character — it’s played out, man. It’s done,” he explained.
Despite the fact that Westwick isn’t ready to revisit his charming Upper East Side character, he did joke that if the price was right maybe he would consider it. Okay, so we shouldn’t hold our breath on a Gossip Girl reboot, but we’re also not going to rule it out completely… at least not yet!
In the meantime, you can check out the British actor on White Gold which airs on Wednesdays on BBC2.
