While Riverdale fans may still be reeling over the season 1 finale (we are too, so don’t worry!), it turns out the show actually had an entirely different ending in mind.

During MCM Comic Con in London earlier this week, KJ Apa, who plays lead Archie Andrews on The CW drama, revealed that there was actually an alternative ending to the scene we all saw that featured Archie and his father Fred (played by Luke Perry) in Pop’s.

“We had a completely different ending while we were shooting,” Apa told fans and reporters at the event as reported by the Mirror UK. “Only me and Luke got sent the ending the night before we shot that scene.”

Seeing as the final scene was all about the Andrews men and a gunshot it makes total sense that they were the only two actors in the loop.

“We kinda just got it done. No one else actually knew about it except for us at that time,” he explained about that dreadful scene.

As for what was originally set to happen in the finale, Apa didn’t give too many details but he did say it involved a Riverdale redhead.

It had “something to do with the Blossoms,” the 19-year-old actor spilled. Ugh, the Blossoms are always the ones getting into trouble.

Apa also teased that his character is going to be “much darker” next season, which we are all actually really ready for.

“I’m really excited to explore a different side of Archie that we haven’t really seen yet, a darker side,” Apa revealed. “[The event] It kinda shakes things up for him for sure. Things start to get pretty gnarly.”

Season 2 of Riverdale returns this fall on The CW.
