Sorry Big Little Lies fans, you might not like this news. After all the back and forth on whether or not there will be a second season of the HBO drama, it looks like it might not happen.
While being interviewed by her Moulin Rouge costar Ewan McGregor for Variety’s “Actors on Actors”, Nicole Kidman revealed that it’s unlikely the series, which was based on a popular book by Liane Moriarty, will be revisited.
“It was a book so it was pretty finite,” Kidman told McGregor. “We got the taste for it, so we’re like, ‘ah, what a pity,’ but you never know, you always hope, but there’s no story.”
To drive home the point that there’s no season two, Kidman added, “There’s absolutely no prospects right now.”
Kidman and her Big Little Lies costar Reese Witherspoon previously spoke out on wanting to do more, but it looks like realistically it won’t be happening.
We understand that it was a special season of television created from a book, so there isn’t actual source material, but if Liane Moriarty writes another book, maybe we can get another season down the road… just maybe.
Despite the fact that there is no follow-up season planned for Big Little Lies, Kidman hasn’t ruled out doing another TV venture completely.
“The thing I love about television is that you are in people’s lives regularly,” she explained about the difference between TV and film projects. “And the connection that way is intense, and it makes me feel very much a part of the world — far more connected to the world than in a film.”
