Selena Gomez is always keeping her fans in the loop when it comes to her health, and her music video for “Bad Liar” — and its cover art — proves it.
If you remember correctly, when Gomez revealed her cover art for “Bad Liar” in May, she had a bandage on her wrist as well as a hospital bracelet. Now, the 24- year-old singer has opened up to MTV News about she decided to keep the items on during her shoot for the single.
“To be honest, it was actually a very real moment,” Gomez told MTV News regarding her medical accessories. “I had just finished getting treatments done. I have Lupus so, I was in the hospital that week.”
Gomez explained that when she arrived to her shoot, photographer Petra Collins said she liked the realness of her hospital bracelet and bandage and asked to shoot the singer with them on.
“She thought it was beautiful,” Gomez recalled.
In addition to Collins’ love of the rawness and vulnerability of Gomez with her wrist armor, the singer thought the medical gear connected with the message of the song as well.
“It kind of symbolizes what ‘Bad Liar’ is, where you’re in that stuck moment, where this is the feeling that I can’t help but overtake what I am going through,” she said. “It was just exactly where I was emotionally.”
Wow, this story makes us feel all of the emotions in “Bad Liar” even more, and we are definitely empowered by the beauty of Gomez and her continual battle with Lupus. You go girl!
