There’s no denying everyone’s favorite Mother of Dragons is one of the fiercest characters on Game of Thrones, but that doesn’t mean she’ll make it through to see the end of the series.

In a recent interview with Belfast Telegraph, Daenerys actress Emilia Clarke spoke candidly about the state we’ll see her character in when Game of Thrones picks back up for season 7.

The last we saw of Daenerys, she was making her way closer to King’s Landing with every intent of assuming her rightful place on the Iron Throne. With Cersei in full possession of the coveted seat, there’s no telling what’ll transpire when these two strong-willed women square off. Even so, Clarke, like the rest of us, is hoping Daenerys will pull through.

“Right now, I’m sort of feeling— with her— optimistic,” teased Clarke with regards to whether or not Dany’s mission will prove successful. “She’ll probably need some help, though. I’ll definitely be disappointed if she doesn’t make it.”

Perhaps extra help for Daenerys will come in the form of none other than Jon Snow (Kit Harington). As we discovered in season 6, Jon is not the illegitimate son of Ned Stark, but in fact the son of Ned’s sister, Lyanna Stark, and Rhaegar Targaryen. Jon’s newly discovered bloodline actually makes Daenerys, who is Rhaegar’s sister, his paternal aunt.

We’ll be interested to see if these two ever cross paths before Game of Thrones reaches its impending finale. More importantly, we’ll be even more excited to see if Daenerys ever achieves her goal of taking her rightful place on the Iron Throne.

Game of Thrones season 7 premieres July 16 on HBO
