TV Line has confirmed that Yasmine Al Massri will not be returning when the show picks back up in 2018. Massri played not one, but two characters on the show for the past two seasons — twin FBI recruits Nimah and Raina — but according to her social media announcement both characters will be retired ahead of a “rebooted” season three.
“Thank u for your love and support from all around the world that made Nima and Reina one of the fans favorite characters on #quantico #quanticoabc #nimareina #twins .. time to say good bye,” Massri wrote on a side-by-side photo of her characters on Friday.
After fans started express their heartbreak over this major change, Massri tried to explain the switch on Twitter.
“The show will have a major reboot 4 z third season & I moved back 2 LA which would make it difficult 4 me to be far from Liam for too long,” she said referring to her son.
The news is the second big change coming from Quantico heading into the show’s third season. In addition to Massri no longer playing everyone’s favorite twins, showrunner, Joshua Safran, is stepping down from his role next season, Variety previously reported.
There is good news, however, the show’s leading lady Priyanka Chopra — who is a two-time People’s Choice Award winner — is definitely on board for the upcoming 13-episode season.
“So excited about the season 3 pick up for #Quantico congrats to everyone who made it happen! #AlexParrish will be back soon..,” Chopra tweeted back in May.
