Everyone has a favorite song by Ed Sheeran — including the artist himself.
On Thursday (June 16), Sheeran attended the 2017 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Gala in New York City, where he revealed which of his songs written for other artists is actually his favorite.
“Probably ‘Love Yourself,’” Sheeran said when AOL asked which song was his favorite out of all the tracks he’s penned for someone else.
The best part about the Justin Bieber song is that Sheeran didn’t know it would be a hit and therefore its success was even more exciting.
“I didn’t know — I don’t think anyone knew [how big it would become],” the British singer told the publication. “I think Bieber and [his manager Scooter Braun] knew, but I think Benny and me, who worked on the song, we had no idea.”
What’s even more crazy is that “Love Yourself” was initially written with Rihanna in mind, but it was later shopped out to Bieber, who has made it totally iconic.
Later in the interview, Sheeran also revealed that “Perfect” is his favorite song of his newest album, ÷.
Which Sheeran track is your all-time favorite? Is it one he wrote for himself or for another artist?
