Huffington Post chatted with Hanks at an ACLU event back in March, and of course the topic of Toy Story came up. With the fourth installment currently in the works, fans need to know what Woody — ah, we mean Hanks — has to say about the theory that Andy’s mom is actually Jesse’s owner, Emily.
“Sounds like a fantastic off-story, a little bit of fan knowledge to me,” Hanks told HuffPost when they explained the theory. It is a fantastic story plot, Tom, we know!
In case you missed it, a Pixar theorist named Jon Negroni, pointed out that in Toy Story 2, we see a flashback of Jesse being played with by her owner Emily. Emily dons a red cowboy hat (similar to the one Jesse always wears), which looks a LOT like Andy’s red hat that he never takes off.
Could Emily be Andy’s mom, and therefore Jesse’s favorite owner, all grown up? It would explain why Andy rocks a red hat and not one that matches Woody’s brown one!
Not only did Hanks give the theory his approval, but also he seemed to hint that it might be confirmed in Toy Story 4, which hits theaters next year.
“And I’m sure the folks at Pixar have paid attention to it,” Hanks added when talking about the possibly Emily and Andy connection. “I’m not saying such a flashback might happen in the fourth movie, but check it out.”
Now if only Toy Story 4 was already here, then we could see if there is a red-hat tie-in once and for all. Although, let’s be honest, no matter what happens in Toy Story 4, we’re going to love it, because who doesn’t love a tale about the rootinest tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild, west?
Toy Story 4 is set to hit theaters on June 21, 2019.
