During an interview with Den of Geek, Jurassic World director and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom producer and writer, Colin Trevorrow, revealed the reasoning behind the decision not to have the New Girl actor reprise his role as Lowery.
“He’s not in Jurassic World 2 for the same reason that any other actor would be excluded from a movie. Unless we can find a genuine, organic way to make it not seem like he’s in it because he was a great character in a previous film,” Trevorrow told Den of Geek about Johnson being excluded from the Jurassic World sequel.
The good news is that although Johnson’s character doesn’t fit into the upcoming dinosaur film, Trevorrow revealed that he might not be gone for good.
“It doesn’t mean he’ll never be back, and I’ve had conversations with almost all of the actors going back to the previous films about how important their legacies are to these movies, and yet also how important it is to continuously change and evolve them into something new,” he explained.
With so much success from the 2015 reboot, and all of the hype around the second installment of the Chris Pratt-led film, we wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a third, fourth, or even fifth movie in the Jurassic World universe — which means there’ll be plenty of opportunities for Johnson to make a come back!
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is set to hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
