Will Pitch Perfect 3 finally answer one of fans’ biggest burning questions about the franchise? There’s certainly a chance…
In an interview with USA Today, Pitch Perfect 3 director Trish Sie revealed that the latest installment of the franchise will show “a little bit of Fat Amy’s origin story,” and we can only hope that her tease means we’ll finally learn more about how Fat Amy (played by Rebel Wilson) got her unique nickname.
After all, as fans learned in the second film, the Aussie character’s real name is Fat Patricia — which begs the question, why did she change it to Amy? Why not Rachel or Ariel or Trish?
Despite the fact that there is still a long way to go before we see the latest journey from the Barden Bellas, Sie did give a few more details about the third film’s plot, so we’ll just hold onto these details until the official release.
“They’re out in the real world,” Sie explained about the Bellas, who are no longer in college. “They go on a USO tour and do not stay in the United States. We go all over the place.”
Bellas all over the world? Yes, please! Traveling and singing, plus Fat Amy’s origin story coming to life is going to make for one great movie.
Sound off in the comments below if you have any thoughts on how Fat Amy chose her name and what her life was like before she came to Barden University.
Pitch Perfect 3 hits theaters on December 22, 2017.
