We interrupt your current activity of watching and re-watching the Season 7 Game of Thrones trailer to give you prequel news!
On Friday (June 23), George R.R. Martin confirmed that there are five GOT successor shows moving forward, and even though they probably won’t all make it to air, we are rejoicing as if we ruled the seven kingdoms.
“LOTS of things going on with television and film,” Martin wrote on his blog from Santa Fe, New Mexico. “Season 7 of GAME OF THRONES will be here on July 16 (and we’re doing a season 6 marathon at the JCC), the five successor shows are moving forward at various rates of speed.”
While Martin has yet to really say what the possible prequels, or “successor shows” as he calls them, will be about, we are nevertheless very excited. Sure, the TV world is cruel to new pilots and scripts, but with Martin helping all of the writers who’ve signed on to carry the world of Westeros forward, there is a good chance at least one, if not more, will make it to our TV screens.
“And we’re talking with UCP about not one, not two, but three possible Wild Cards series. And there are a couple other TV projects that I can’t tell you about,” he continued to tease. “How much of this will come to pass, nobody knows. Ah, the joys of development.”
Wild Cards series (another TV world based on Martin’s novels from back in 1986) and GOT spinoffs… when does Martin sleep? We’re guessing never!
Now that we know the Game of Thrones‘ successor stories are moving forward, what do you want to see from the next installments of Martin’s world? Do you want any of the possible shows to follow a GOT character?
