The Pretty Little Liars finale is almost here, and we are both excited and terrified to see what happens when it all ends.
Ahead of the series finale, which is seven seasons in the making, PLL creator I. Marlene King chatted with Vulture about all-things PLL. The biggest reveal, is that not everything will get tied up come Tuesday.
“I feel like there’s just one outstanding question that we decided to let the fans ponder,” King told Vulture about any possible unanswered questions. “And it’s more tongue-and-cheek and fun.” The creator added that the unresolved storyline will not be something that will leave fans freaking out because “we’re never going to know this or that.”
This is Pretty Little Liars we’re talking about, so you knew there had to be one remaining mystery once the series wrapped.
Of course, in typical PLL fashion, the storyline King is referring to is SO vague and leaves us with more questions that answers. But then again, that’s why we love this Freeform series, so we’ll just have to wait and see what “tongue and cheek” part King is referring to on this week’s two-hour finale.
As for whether or not it was hard to write the series finale and say goodbye to Rosewood, King admitted she always had an endgame.
“I knew the ending before the season started, and I felt like the challenge was just laying in the groundwork throughout the season to be able to then wrap it up in one final two-hour episode,” she explained.
By leaving a bunch of Easter eggs throughout this season, the showrunner hoped to keep fans hooked and have them asking even more questions about all of the mysteries the Liars are currently facing. “I think it’s a beautiful path that lead to the finale,” King added.
Pretty Little Liars series finale airs on Tuesday, June 27, at 8 p.m. on Freeform.
