On Tuesday (June 27), the Disney Channel alum made a BIG announcement on social media is regards to her music, so you better listen up. Carpenter — whose latest album, EVOLution, dropped in October, just revealed that she has more new music on the way!
“7.7.17 My new single #Why belongs to you,” Carpenter wrote alongside new cover art for her upcoming single, “Why.”
Carpenter begins her first North America headlining tour, The De-Tour, on July 6th in Vancouver, British Columbia, and the next day she is going to drop her highly anticipated single, “Why,” and we can’t wait.
Before the “On Purpose” singer revealed the artwork for her upcoming single, she teased fans by sending them puzzle pieces attached to postcards. Carpenter sent a hand-written note along with one of four pieces of the image on the left side of the postcard. She challenged her fans to post the pieces and put them together, and many fans rose to the occasion.
She then posted images of iconic couples in movie history with the words, “#Why” on them on her Instagram account leading up to the big reveal. Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes in Romeo + Juliet, When Harry Met Sally and Say Anything, were amongst the movies featured on her social media hinting at the single.
Plus, fans also received images — tainted or treated in weird color combos (part black and white, part color) — like Shrek and Fiona from Shrek with their postcards. Pretty cool, right?
Based on all the clues so far, we’re getting a sense that this single is going to deal with love and loss. Now that the single art has been released — it looks like a vintage movie poster that’s been ripped and messed with, like someone’s heart after a breakup — we cannot wait to hear the new track.
What do you think “Why” will be about?
“Why” drops on July 7, 2017.
