The first official teaser for Stana Katic‘s new series is finally here — and it’s bound to intrigue.
After playing Kate Beckett on Castle for eight seasons, the actress is ready to return to the small screen with Absentia. In the Sony exclusive series, Katic plays an FBI agent who vanishes while working a case — only to reappear years later with no memory of what happened to her.
Like Castle, the series will reportedly kick off with 10 episodes. But while Castle was peppered with comedy, it’s clear from this new teaser that Absentia is a drama through and through. In the clip, we see elements of Katic’s character’s life — including case files and family photos — submerged in water. The clip then shows Katic herself lying still as she’s surrounded by water — that is until her survival instincts kick into gear and she brings herself to the surface while gasping for air. The promo ends with a very clear directive: She must remember.
Katic has previously said that she was drawn to the project — which costars Jack Reacher’s Patrick Heusinger — because of the complexities of her character, Emily Bryne.
“She’s completely imperfect. I think because this is a thriller, because it is a suspense drama, this is a character whose journey you will follow,” Katic told Monaco-Matin. “You will root for her, you will hate her, you will be afraid of her, you will love her. You will follow her throughout the series while she’s searching for the truth alongside her family and her nearest and dearest.”
