There may be quite a few individuals desperate to sit on the Iron Throne on Game of Thrones, but one character who doesn’t have that ultimate seat of power in mind is Sansa Stark.
In a new interview with The Red Bulletin, actress Sophie Turner revealed that her character isn’t aiming to claim the coveted throne. In fact, according to Turner, Sansa doesn’t even have any interest in returning to King’s Landing because of all of the terrible memories she has from her time there.
“She’s kept a clear head in spite of all the crap she’s been through. But I don’t think she has any desire for the throne,” said Turner. “She’s seen how horrible, malicious, sneaky, and disgusting people can be at court, and she has no desire to be a part of that.”
While Turner says Sansa doesn’t want to be part of court, she did cop to the fact that the character was a bit more manipulative last season.
“She’s got to find out who’s loyal to her and who’s not, after all,” said Turner, explaining that Sansa “learned from the best.”
She’s presumably referring to Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen). Last season, we saw as Littlefinger tried to create a rift between Sansa and her half brother, Jon Snow (Kit Harington), after the two siblings teamed up to take back Winterfell. If the photos for season 8 are anything to go by, it seems as though Littlefinger will continue to try and influence the eldest Stark daughter.
Here’s hoping that since Sansa isn’t distracted by the Iron Throne, she’ll be fully focused on trying to outwit Littlefinger!
Game of Thrones season 7 premieres on July 16 on HBO.
