If there is one thing the Game of Thrones cast is great at — besides keeping the show’s plot a secret — it’s teasing fans with just enough information to cause a commotion. The latest actor to stir up intrigue amongst GOT fans is Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.
On Friday (July 7), the GOT actor, who plays Jaime Lannister, took to Instagram to share a selfie, which is all fine and well until you see the loads of barrels in the background of his shot.
Coster-Waldau provided some hints as to what the photo could mean in his caption, but like everything else in the world of Westeros, his tease gives us a only a little to go off, and a lot to speculate about.
“Game of thrones season 7. Will be explosive. #got7 #hbo #whatdoesitmean?,” Coster-Waldau wrote alongside a picture of him surrounded by barrels.
Based on the fact that we previously saw green fire being used by Jaime’s sister Cersai during season 6, these barrels could definitely be housing a weapon (like wildfire) for one of the many battles that are sure to happen when season 7 picks up.
To add more fuel to the speculative fire, TVGuide.com points out that Coster-Waldau set the location for the photo as Casterly Rock, Westeros.
While we clearly have to wait and see what’s actually in the barrels, Coster-Waldau isn’t the first actor from the HBO franchise who has hinted at an “explosive” season.
Gwendoline Christie also teased a fiery seventh season (as if the past six seasons have been tame, right?).
“Season seven is where things really start to heat up,” Christie told Elle on the Cannes carpet earlier this summer, “and you start to see unlikely combinations, unlikely attitudes, and unlikely acts.”
Could we see an unlikely combination using wildfire from these barrels to take over the Iron Throne? It’s Game of Thrones, so anything is possible!
Game of Thrones returns for its seventh season on July 16, 2017 at 9 p.m. on HBO.
