If you haven’t watched Spider-Man: Homecoming yet, be aware – because this post contains a MAJOR spoiler about the movie!

Spider-Man: Homecoming is earning raves for its fresh take on the superhero saga, but there’s one twist in particular in the movie that’s really got everyone talking.

In previous iterations, Peter Parker (who is played by Tom Holland in Homecoming) has kept his identity secret from most everyone around him — including, most notably, his Aunt May. Spider-Man: Homecoming, however, takes a completely different — and very surprising — approach to handling the character’s duel identity as it relates to his nearest and dearest relative: (And here’s where the big spoiler comes in!) The movie gives our favorite web slinger’s big secret away.

That’s right, as reported by CinemaBlend, the film caps off with Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) discovering Spider-Man’s true identity. Needless to say, the twist comes as big shock — not just to Aunt May, but also to fans, who likely weren’t expecting such a big reveal to happen in the final scene.

In an interview with CinemaBlend, Marvel boss Kevin Feige explained the decision to let Aunt May in on Spider-Man’s true identity so early on in the series and related to the decision to have Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) expose his superhero alter ego to the press at the end of the first Iron Man movie.

“We did not want to do the secret identity thing at that point in the MCU. And now, same thing. The dynamic now is forced to be something fresh and something unique going forward,” Feige told CinemaBlend, explaining that the idea to reveal Parker’s superhero side to Aunt May actually came from a comic issue which did the same. (You can out Feige’s full interview over at CinemaBlend.)

Based on the epic twist, we can’t wait to see where the franchise goes next. What’s your take on Spider-Man: Homecoming? Let us know by taking our poll above!
