During an interview with Entertainment Weekly about the HBO miniseries’ whopping 16 Emmy nominations, Kidman opened up about whether or not season 2 is a possibility — and it turns out, fans do have reason to hope for more. According to the actress, while nothing is set in stone, the show’s multiple Emmy nods certainly help make the case stronger for another season.
“It inches us closer,” Kidman told Entertainment Weekly about what the noms could mean for a potential second season. “But so much of it is trying to stay true to the characters and their voices. If we can do it, then it will be done. I believe their stories warrant it and I don’t want to abandon them. We don’t want to sell them short, either. But I’m hoping we can find it if we take the leap.”
Last month, Kidman crushed everyone’s hopes when she said there was “no story” for more episodes of the drama (season one was adapted by a book written by Liane Moriarty). The actress — who earned acclaim for her portrayal of secretly tormented mother-of-twins, Celeste Wright, — revealed during Variety Actor’s on Actor’s interview that after she and her costars, including Reese Witherspoon, Laura Dern, and Shailene Woodley, got a taste for season 1, they couldn’t help but want to reprise their roles. However, she added, “There’s absolutely no prospects right now.”
Now, with so many Emmy noms in tow, it looks like those prospects are changing. Or at least we hope they are!
