Descendants 2 premieres this week and we can barely contain our excitement!
On Monday (July 17), Dove Cameron, who plays Maleficent’s daughter Mal in the Descendants franchise, stopped by Live! With Kelly & Ryan to talk about all of her upcoming projects, and of course, Descendants 2 news was on the list. While speaking about the sequel to the popular Disney Channel original movie, Cameron confirmed a detail that up until now has been up in the air: It turns out, Descendants 2 will kick off with a time jump — a six-month time jump, to be exact!
“For the second one we have picked up approximately, I don’t think we ever really defined it, six months after the first one ended so the villain kids have sort of found their footing, or not found their footing in this totally opposite world that they grew up knowing and not so much loving,” Cameron told the talk show hosts, Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest.
As for who is having the hardest time when the movie picks up, it’s definitely Cameron’s character, who according to her, is the most villainous of them all.
“My character Mal is actually having the hardest time adjusting, considering that she is the most villainous of them all,” the actress explained. “It’s really not meshing with her so she’s trying on this whole princess cape persona to try to sort of fit in and be accepted by these people that she hopes to find a home with but she’s finding that it’s against her nature.”
All this talk about time jumps, and villainy, mixed with the Descendants 2 trailers featuring LOTs of singing, has us ready for the weekend and ready to see Cameron back in action, singing and dancing.
Luckily, in addition to Descendants 2, which premieres this Friday, Cameron is starring in the upcoming live performance of Mamma Mia! at the Hollywood Bowl this summer with Disney Channel alum Corbin Bleu, so we have even more summer fun to look forward to from the Liv and Maddie alum.
Descendants 2 debuts on July 21 on Disney Channel, Disney XD, Freeform, ABC, and Lifetime.
