Shondaland is getting bigger and better, with the first official big name joining the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff.
As fans of Shondaland know, showrunner Shonda Rhimes is expanding her TV empire with a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff centered around the personal and professional lives of firefighters in Seattle. Although the cast has yet to be revealed, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that one person has signed on for the project, and he’s a BIG name.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Emmy-winning director Paris Barclay has been tapped as the producing director and executive producer of the yet-to-be named spinoff. Barclay is known for his work on NYPD Blue, Sons of Anarchy (as executive producer), and most recently as executive producer on Fox’s Pitch.
“My ‘theatrical home’ for the next season, or two, or more #GreysAnatomySpinoff,” Barclay wrote alongside a trio of photos in Seattle, confirming the news.
It looks like Barclay is already adjusting to his new “theatrical home” and it makes us even more excited to see what the series will truly be about when it debuts — despite the fact that no date has been set yet. The good news is the characters will be introduced during an episode of Grey’s next season, and then the spinoff will get its own timeslot come midseason, E! Online previously reported.
Barclay will be working alongside Rhimes and Betsy Beers who are both executive producers on the upcoming series. He will also be working with Grey’s executive producer Stacy McKee, who is reportedly moving to the spinoff full time.
Grey’s Anatomy will return for its 14th season this fall.
