The brand-new clip (which is actually a GIF) was revealed at this year’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, and then uploaded to the official Walt Disney Studios Twitter on Saturday (July 15).
“Emily Blunt is Mary Poppins in the upcoming sequel, #MaryPoppinsReturns,” wrote Disney along with the image. “The brand-new film opens in theaters December 2018.”
The GIF starts off focused on the English nanny’s trusty umbrella before its slowly lifted away to reveal a straight on shot of Blunt as everyone’s favorite English nanny.
There’s no denying Blunt has some big shoes to fill. After all, she’s taking over the role from the iconic Julie Andrews, who first portrayed Mary Poppins back in 1964.
If you were still on the fence about Blunt as Poppins, however, we’re sure this new first look at the actress in full costume is bound make you believe she’s practically perfect in every way!
Though we’ve still got a while to go before Mary Poppins Returns hits theaters, Disney hasn’t been shy about teasing us with stills from the upcoming sequel.
Just a few weeks ago, fans got a great first look at the film in the form of a few stills released by EW. Most notably, the images featured Jane and Michale Banks, who are all grown up now in the sequel that’s set 25 years after the original.
Additionally, we also got our first look at Hamilton mastermind, Lin-Manuel Miranda as the lamplighter Jack.
Given how great the film looks just from what’s been released, we’ll definitely be heading out to check this one out in theaters!
Mary Poppins Returns premieres December 2018.
