More big changes are coming to Hawaii Five-0

Following the exits of original cast members Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, The CBS drama is bulking up its season 8 roster with some new faces. Variety reports that Meaghan Rath and Beulah Koale have been tapped to join the Hawaii Five-0 squad. Fans can also expect to see more of current cast member Ian Anthony Dale. The actor, who has played the role of Adam Noshimuri since 2011, has officially been upped to a series regular.

According to Variety, Rath will portray a Police Academy evictee-turned-lifeguard who gets recruited to the team by McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin). Meanwhile, Koale has been tapped to play a former Navy SEAL who reaches out to McGarrett because he wants to join the Five-0 to repurpose his skills. As for how Dale’s role will expand now that he’s going to be a regular? Well, McGarett will reportedly be making Noshimuri an official part of the Five-0. (Clearly, McGarrett will be very busy in season 8!)

Hawaii Five-0 fans were shocked when CBS announced earlier this month that both Kim and Park had opted to leave the series. While Park has not yet spoken out about her departure, in a lengthy statement to fans, Kim opened up about his decision to depart the drama, and thanked his former colleagues.

“As sad as it feels to say goodbye, what I feel most is gratitude. I am so deeply thankful to our crew, writers and everyone associated with the show – and especially the cast, who have been nothing but supportive through this entire process. They and the crew have been my second family for seven years and I wish them nothing but success for season 8 – and beyond.”

Executive producer Peter M. Lenkov also spoke out about the “heartbreaking” exits.

“In the end, everyone tried their best to keep the ohana intact. So much so, we were holding off from reporting the news, hoping an agreement could still be reached. Yes, it’s heartbreaking, but this happens on long-running shows. It is a hurdle we all worked hard trying to overcome.”
