It’s been 16 years since The Princess Diaries first hit theaters and fans are still waiting to see what will happen next for the Princess of Genovia, aka Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway).

As rumors have been floating around about a possible third film, the author of all The Princess Diaries books (there are 14 total), Meg Cabot, confirmed to Entertainment Weekly recently that there is a script ready to go — though she wouldn’t give away too many details about what it may contain.

“I am not allowed to say,” Cabot told Entertainment Weekly when asked about what this script has in store for her iconic character. “I would love to sit and talk about [it], but I can’t. I’m not allowed.”

Cabot did, however, hint that the third film — if it were to happen — would follow the movies, not necessarily the books. The author even revealed the one storyline she doubts will make the cut if and when the third installment hits the big screen.

“But it’s really more following the movie than the books, so if she — the last version I read, she definitely did not find out that she has a biracial younger sister… which I personally would’ve thought was hilarious, but that was not the direction they were going.”

Cabot and her fans aren’t the only ones open to more Princess Diaries. In fact, last year, Julie Andrews (who plays Mia’s grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi) told BuzzFeed that Hathaway had an idea for the next installment, and that she was “all for it.”

Now that we know there is in fact a script already out there, and that both Hathaway and Andrews are on board, all we need is for filming to get underway already!

What do you think about a Princess Diaries 3? What storyline would you like to see play out on the big screen?
