Louis Tomlinson may have helped pen some of your favorite One Direction songs, but that’s nothing compared to what’s coming up on his debut solo album.

In a new interview with Music Choice in New York City, Tomlinson teased what fans can expect from his upcoming solo album.

Interestingly, Tomlinson revealed that writing for himself was a piece of cake for one very specific reason.

“I kinda just write about me and be very honest and very open,” Tomlinson told Music Choice’s Dariany Santana, as pointed out by JustJared. “I mean when I wrote for One Direction, I had to write a concept that matches for the four boys and to listeners as well.”

Writing honest lyrics might be easier, but Tomlinson also added that working on his debut solo album has come with its own challenges.

With One Direction — which included bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Liam Payne, Tomlinson was one of four voices. When it comes to his solo material, he’s the one making the decisions.

Even so, the “Back To You” singer is excited to share this particular version of himself with his adoring fans.

“You will learn a little bit more about me after this album,” promised Tomlinson.

So when can we expect to get our hands on his highly anticipated solo album? Unfortunately, Tomlinson hasn’t set a specific release date yet, but the singer did reveal in a recent interview with BBC News that he’s hoping to have it out at the end of this year.

Up next, fans can catch Tomlinson at this year’s 2017 Teen Choice Awards (airing Sunday, August 13 at 8 p.m. on Fox) where he’ll be one of the night’s performers.
