This year has been full of big hits when it comes to new songs and their correlating music videos, but which video has managed to make the biggest splash?
“Thank you YouTube for ‘Despacito’’s success. I recognize the influence that the platform has. The music industry has changed, the rules of music have changed, and YouTube has a big responsibility and I recognize it,” Daddy Yankee said in an Instagram video after learning the news. “Breaking a record is overwhelming and I am happy to keep inspiring others to do the same.”
The beachfront music video is definitely a summer go-to, so we’re not that surprised that this song has won over YouTube viewers with 3,079,777,620 views (as of the moment we published this piece). That number is just insane!
Despite the “Despacito” video not starring Bieber, who is in the remix version of the track, the video, which is colorful, dance-filled and just so much fun, pushed out the previous record holder, which was Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s “See You Again,” which was at 3,099,425,155 views.
To make this title even more impressive, “Despacito” only debuted on YouTube in January 2017, which means it’s managed to break the record in less than eight months. According to Billboard, the previous record holder took two years to rise to its views. Talk about being a clear winner!
