A new trailer for the upcoming family drama Wonder has officially hit the internet, and it packs a pretty emotional punch!
When moviegoers head out to see Wonder, they’ll be treated to a story about a young boy named Auggie (Room’s Jacob Tremblay), born with Treacher Collins syndrome, who’s heading off to public school for the first time. It’s natural for ordinary kids to be nervous about the first day at a new school, but as Auggie himself puts it at the beginning of the trailer, he’s not just an ordinary kid. Auggie’s transition into his school is made all the more difficult due to his facial differences.
“People don’t like to touch me because they think I’m contagious,” laments Auggie as we see a montage of kids bullying him for his differences.
Auggie might be having a tough time at school, but lucky for him, he’s got an incredibly supportive family, which includes his loving mother, Isabel (Julia Roberts).
“We all have marks on our faces,” explains Isabel gently.
“This is the map that shows us where we’re going,” continues Isabel, gesturing to her heart. “And this is the map that shows us where we’ve been,” she concludes, gesturing to her face.
We don’t know about you, but we’ll definitely be packing the tissues when we head out to see Wonder in theaters this November!
Also starring Owen Wilson, Daveed Diggs, Mandy Patinkin, and Sonia Braga, Wonder is directed by Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), and is based off of R. J. Palacio’s 2012 novel of the same name.
Wonder hits theaters on November 17, 2017.
