August is clearly the month for all-things BTS, and we couldn’t be happier about it!
On the heels of the first “Love Yourself” highlight reel, which was released yesterday (Aug. 15), BTS has unveiled another new teaser, which has fans freaking out with excitement for the band’s new music.
It’s clear from both reels that the “Love Yourself” series will be an emotional rollercoaster, but there’s one moment in particular from the first video that we still can’t stop thinking about.
Clocking it at almost five minutes, the first highlight reel contains short stories focused on each member of the group, while keeping just enough under wraps to keep fans guessing about what the entire narrative means. Though a number of the moments are sweet, the clip closes with a scene that’s undeniably heartbreaking.
The final scene of the first highlight reel shows J-Hope (Jung Hoseok) blowing out a candle — as he closes his eyes, he appears to flashback to a childhood memory.
In the memory, or flashback, we see a young boy seemingly being abandoned by his mother in front of a carousal, and it’s so incredibly sad. While it’s not confirmed that J-Hope is the boy in question, it seems to be the most likely scenario given the way the story connects the two scenes. Is the moment part of the phases of love and loss, which — based on the definitions of love in the “Love Yourself” posters — seem to be a a big theme in the BTS guy’s lives? We have so many questions!
The good news is that BTS will be giving fans new music for their “Love Yourself” series next month and continue to share more tunes through 2018, so fans will hopefully get more clues as to what everything means very soon.
What are your thoughts on the “Love Yourself” series so far? What do you think this J-Hope moment means?
