Shawn Mendes is friends with a lot of big stars, including Taylor Swift, and he’s been touring with popular singers like Charlie Puth, but that doesn’t mean he can’t surprise his fans (and get a little starstruck himself) while on tour.
In fact, while performing at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York earlier this week as a part of his Illuminate World Tour, he brought a BIG star up on stage with him, and fans were stunned… in a good way. So, who showed up you ask? Ed Sheeran!
If you’re wondering what these two artists performed together, we will give you a hint… it featured both of them on guitars! During Mendes’ Wednesday show, he decided to perform a stripped-down version of his 2016 hit “Mercy,” and just when fans thought his slow rendition couldn’t get any better, Sheeran came forward from backstage and began to sing and play guitar.
As you can imagine the audience freaked out, and the duet was pure perfection.
Both Mendes and Sheeran later posted photos from their successful duet. The “Treat You Better” singer thanked Sheeran for coming up on stage with him in his photo. Meanwhile, Sheeran posted a black-and-white image of them hugging it out after the song (see Sheeran’s pic below).
Surprisingly, Mendes and Sheeran have yet to collaborate on new music — but after their latest duet, and the amazing response it received from fans, we think they should consider hitting the studio together to collaborate immediately!
