According to Billboard, Puth’s single “Attention,” which debuted in April 2017, has officially reached the number one spot on the Pop Songs radio airplay chart for the week ending September 9, 2017. Pretty cool, right?
The 25-year-old singer — whose album Voice Notes is set to drop this year — has actually been at the number one spot before with “See You Again,” but he was only a collaborator on the song, co-writing and co-producing the track by Wiz Khalifa. The song did, however, hold the spot for four weeks in 2015, which is pretty impressive.
Although this is Puth’s first solo track to rise to the very top of the Pop charts, he has had three other songs break into the top 15, so it was basically only a matter of time before he hit number one. Those three songs were, “Marvin Gaye,” featuring Meghan Trainor (which held the number 15 spot on October 2015), “One Call Away,” which was number 11 back in March 2016, and “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” featuring Selena Gomez (which was also at the number 11 spot, but in September 2016).
With Puth’s recent success on Shawn Mendes Illuminate Tour, which he described as being pierced with fan “screams [that] are insane,” it makes sense that “Attention’ would break through the top 15 Pop Songs and rise all the way to the top.
Way to go Charlie, you deserve this chart-topping success!
