Grey’s Anatomy has seen a lot of stars move on from the ABC drama throughout the years, but many of them have come back at one time or another. Now, we have news on whether one particularly beloved alum will be returning to the series this season.
Ahead of season 14, executive producer Debbie Allen spoke with TVLine about the likelihood of Sara Ramirez coming back to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital this year. Sadly, it isn’t looking good for fans of Ramirez’s character, Dr. Callie Torres.
“There are no plans at the moment,” Allen told TVLine in regards to Ramirez respiring her role as the orthopedic surgeon this season.
The last time we saw Dr. Torres was in season 12 when she revealed she was moving to New York City. Following her surprise exit, Ramirez posted a heartfelt goodbye post that hinted her farewell wasn’t forever.
“I am deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey’s Anatomy & ABC but for now I’m taking some welcome time off,” Ramirez wrote on Twitter at the time of her departure. “Shonda been so incredible to work for, and we will definitely continue our conversations! I send my love to Ellen, the rest of the cast & crew, and I look forward to always being apart of the Shondaland family.”
Although we are still hoping for Ramirez to jump back into her role as Callie someday, at least season 14 will have another familiar face back in the OR. Kim Raver, who played Dr. Teddy Altman from season six through season eight, is checking back into Grey’s as a guest star this year.
Ahead of the season 14 premiere, make sure to check out some of Raver’s best on-set moments so far here.
Grey’s Anatomy returns for season 14 on September 28, 2017 with a two-hour episode on ABC.
