It looks like Harry Styles could be returning to his roots in a pretty big way!
According to Digital Spy (via the British newspaper The Sun), X-Factor executive producer Mark Sidaway was asked during an ITV press conference on Wednesday (August 30), whether Styles would be appearing on the hit U.K. singing competition later this year, and he apparently responded in the affirmative.
“Yes,” Sidaway reportedly said, according to The Sun. “Thats a yes!”
Though The X Factor has not yet made an official announcement regarding Styles’ potential appearance, the significance of the singer of the performing on the show won’t be lost on anyone who’s been following his career for years.
As Directoners are well aware, One Direction got their start competing on the very stage Styles could be returning to, so seeing Styles perform on The X Factor as a solo artist would make for a pretty cool full-circle moment.
The last time Styles was on that fateful stage was in 2015, when he was still part of One Direction. The band returned to X Factor as a foursome just before they went on hiatus and performed a medley of their own hits mixed with a few iconic covers they did while competing on the series.
It seems to be a year of monumental firsts for Styles. On top of releasing his debut solo album, the singer is also gearing up to embark on his first-ever solo tour. The sold out affair officially kicks off September 19 in San Francisco before wrapping in Tokyo, Japan on December 8.
