This Is Us has thrown fans for some pretty emotional loops over the course of the first season. Even so, there’s one heartache viewers won’t have to worry about experiencing.

In a recent interview with Variety, series creator Dan Fogleman opened up about what’s in store for Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) come season two of the series. According to Fogleman, viewers will see the couples’ relationship go through the ringer as they explore the possibility of adoption in the second. However, Fogleman assures that — regardless of the friction ahead — there’s one road we’ll never see the pair go down.

“Randall and Beth will never separate in this show, but they are going to experience trials and tribulations,” said Fogleman. “This season will see a big part of that.”

We’re glad to hear that regardless of how tough things get, Randall and Beth are in it for the long haul!

We might not have to worry about the fate of Randall and Beth’s relationship, but that doesn’t mean This Is Us season 2 will be without the emotional turmoil we’ve come to expect from the series.

As far as Randall’s brother and sister go, we’ll be seeing Kevin (Justin Hartley) working on one of the biggest movies of his career. Meanwhile, Kate (Chrissy Metz) will be focusing her efforts on pursuit her dreams of becoming a singer.

With so many big life changes in store for The Big Three, we’re expecting an equal amount of ups and downs. With that in mind, we’ll be stocking up on the tissues in preparation for This Is Us’ grand return to television!

This Is Us season 2 premieres September 26 on NBC at 9 p.m.
