The return of Grey’s Anatomy is just weeks away, but it still feels like forever until we will be back at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Luckily, ABC has just released its first photos from season 14 to hold fans over until the series kicks back into gear later this month.
Since the end of season 13, there have been a lot of teasers and cryptic messages in regards to what is going to happen next for the characters on Grey’s, and based on these new photos from the network, it’s going to be a mixed bag of emotions for a few of your favorites.
Before we dive into what could possibly be happening in these pictures, we want to focus on the fact that we have visual confirmation of Kim Raver’s return this season. We know there have been a lot of on-set photos from the cast with Raver, but this is the first time ABC has shown us a glimpse of Dr. Teddy Altman back in Seattle, and it’s clear she’s ready to get to work.
As for what the rest of the season 14 teaser photos reveal, we have a few thoughts. A few of the images are happy — showing smiles on numerous doctors’ faces — while others give off a more ominous vibe, which is spot on for the medical drama.
Based on the happy expressions from Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) and Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary), we’re thinking that Capshaw’s reveal to E! News about this season being reminiscent of the first few seasons, because “it’s very funny. It’s very irreverent, and funny and sort of on its side,” will certainly hold true.
The tense and worrisome looks, however, still exist especially from Dr. Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson). Perhaps it’s due to Teddy’s return, which Henderson previously teased would be interesting for his character, because they have met in the past.
Notably absent from the images? Leading lady Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) — though, there’s no reason to worry. According to the synopsis for the first episode, Meredith will have a big role to play in the premiere.
Check out the new photos from season 14 below and let us know what you think they could mean about the two-hour season premiere, and sound off on which character you’re looking forward to seeing again this season.
Grey’s Anatomy returns on September 28, 2017 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
