It’s been four years since the American version of The Office wrapped up, and everyone is wondering whether the time could finally be right to clock back into the workplace comedy.
While Steve Carrell recently debunked rumors of a revival, it hasn’t shut down the speculation that NBC is planning a reboot of the hit sitcom, which launched the careers of number of actors, including John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, and of course, Mindy Kaling. While there are no concrete plans to bring back the series — Kaling, for her part — seems open to the idea of returning to her old job.
“I loved working on the show and I was there for eight years,” Kaling said during an appearance on The Talk on Tuesday [Sept. 12]. “I think that if Greg Daniels, who did the American version of the show, he’s such a genius. And if he were to be in charge of it, I can’t imagine that I wouldn’t want to help out in some way, or write, and I feel like probably the rest of the cast feels the same.”
While Kaling, who played Kelly Kapoor on the comedy that also gave her big break as a writer (and producer), would be up for getting involved if the show were to come back, she admitted that she’s not sure she’ll be needed.
“He’s so smart, so he’ll probably think of some completely new way of approaching it,” she continued about Daniels. “But I’d definitely watch that show.”
Although we agree with Kaling and would watch an Office reboot with Daniels at the helm, not having the original cast would be less than ideal. What about you, do you think The Office should do a reboot?
