Serena van der Woodsen wore some pretty stunning outfits while Gossip Girl was on air, but there’s a particular emerald green dress that still stands out as one of our favorite pieces.

The iconic dress, with its sweetheart neckline and billowing bubble gown, actually played a pretty big part in the season 2 episode “Serena Also Rises.” Fans will undoubtedly remember the episode as the one where Serena (Blake Lively) gets the opportunity to strut her stuff on the socialite runway as part of Blaire’s (Leighton Meester) mom’s shows.

There’s a twist to the big moment though, when it’s discovered that Serena isn’t walking the runway in an Eleanor Waldorf original— she’s actually wearing a dress designed by Lil’ J (Taylor Momsen)!

In an interview with E! News, Gossip Girl costume designer Eric Damon revealed a pretty surprising fun fact about Serena’s runway moment dress. It turns out, Damon himself was the ghost designer behind the glamorous gown.

According to Damon, getting to create an original piece for the series back in the day was pretty special because it’s something that didn’t happen often due to the show’s tight filming schedule.

“This was a lot of fun for me since we don’t have time to actually build many pieces on episodic TV,” Damon told E! News.

The costume designer, who revealed that the emerald green was taken from the original Eleanor designs, said the piece was meant to evoke high fashion and fun.

“The sweetheart bodice and draped bubble skirt were meant to combine whimsy and couture,” said Damon. One of my favorites!”
