Attention Gossip Girl fans: you’re going to want to hear this! Jennifer Lawrence once auditioned for the hit CW series, and we can’t get over how different the Upper East Side would’ve been with her at the center of it.

Gossip Girl creator Josh Schwartz recently sat down with Vulture and spilled some secrets about what almost was. Schwartz admitted that though he always wanted Blake Lively to play Serena van der Woodsen, Lawrence had her eyes set on the role — even if no one really knew it.

“We did not realize this at the time, but Jennifer Lawrence really wanted to play Serena and auditioned,” Schwartz told Vulture when reminiscing about the series which ran for six seasons (beginning in 20017) and ended in 2012.

Although Schwartz himself doesn’t exactly remember a 16-year-old Lawrence reading for the role, he has a reliable source that says it did in fact happen, and Lawrence was really into it.

“This story came to us secondhand, but we were told she definitely auditioned and was bummed to not get it,” he told the publication.

Okay, we need a little time to wrap our heads around this one. Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar-winning actress wanted to be the Serena van der Woodsen? This fun fact is definitely something Gossip Girl would’ve put on blast all over Manhattan — and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester) would have had a field day with it.

Although we loved Lively as Serena — she played her complex but likeable socialite character to a tee — Lawrence would’ve been an interesting choice for the role. What if Lawrence played Serena’s long-lost sister in an episode? Then we could’ve had the best of both worlds!

What do you think Gossip Girl fans, would Lawrence have fit into the teen drama as Serena, or was Lively the only star that could’ve played her? Sound off in the comments below.
