Fans of Modern Family don’t want to think about the comedy coming to an end, but the cast is already preparing for life after the Dunphys, Pritchetts, Delgado-Pritchetts, and Tuckers.

With the series about to begin season 9 (it’s already been picked up for season 10, too), Ariel Winter, is thinking ahead to what her next move will be once the ABC show wraps.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Winter, who plays Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil Dunphy’s (Ty Burrell) middle child Alex Dunphy, revealed that she plans to keep learning and acting after the sitcom ends.

“I definitely want to continue being an actress. I love it,” Winter told The Hollywood Reporter. “The reason I’m going to college is because I do want knowledge in another field. I’m going to college because I genuinely want to learn.”

Clearly, some of Alex’s nerdy, bookworm tendencies have rubbed off on Winter, who graduated from high school in 2016 and is now attending UCLA.

The only bad news is that Modern Family will be ending eventually, and probably sooner rather than later, according to co-creator Steve Levitan, who hinted that season 10 might actually be the series’ farewell season.

“Our original goal was to just stay on the air. After awhile though, we felt we may be in control our own fate, and 10 sounded like a nice round number,” Levitan told Deadline in August.

That said, nothing is finalized when it comes to the end of the series, so until it is, we’re going to focus on the new season and all the wacky things the Dunphy family (and the rest of their relatives) could get into this year.

Modern Family will return for season 9 on September 27, 2017 on ABC.
