This is Us returns for its second season next week, and with a new season, comes a new phase in the lives of The Big Three, so get ready!
Fans of the NBC drama have been waiting for the next season for what seems like years, and it’s finally right around the corner. In addition to picking up after that heart-wrenching finale, season 2 has plans to switch it up timeline wise, with a new look at The Big Three (aka Randall, Kevin and Kate).
“In my episode, we get to meet the big three in a decade you’ve never seen them in before,” Regina King, who will be directing this season, told E! News on the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet on Sunday, as reported by TV Guide.
Throughout season 1, the Pearson family (as a whole) has been shown in three different key phases. We’ve seen them in the ‘80s (the very early years of the kids and Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) marriage), the ‘90s (as the kids are growing up), and present day (in which the “kids” are adults). So what could possibly be left? How about a flash forward to the much later years of the Big Three?
TV Guide speculates that the future lives of the Pearson family has to be what’s coming this season, and we can’t wait to see what that looks like. Will Kate (Chrissy Metz) get married down the line and have a family of her own? What about Kevin (Justin Hartley), will he stick with acting? As for Randall (Sterling K. Brown), will his family grow, and what will his girls be doing in the future? There are so many different ways that time period could play out.
Luckily, season 2 is so close, and with so much success with its first season, it’s pretty much guaranteed that fans will likely get to see the family grow for many years to come… whether it’s in the past, present or future.
This Is Us returns for season 2 on September 26, 2017 on NBC.
(People’s Choice and NBC are both part of the NBCUniversal family.)
