From the moment that Shonda Rhimes revealed she had another series in the works — a Grey’s Anatomy spinoff series to be exact — we’ve been wondering how the two shows will be tie together, and now we finally have an answer, and it will make fans very happy.

TV Line caught up with Jason George, who plays Dr. Ben Warren on Grey’s Anatomy at Entertainment Weekly’s pre-Emmy party recently, where the actor revealed that there will in fact be a crossover episodes bridging together the world of Grey’s and its new firefighter spinoff series.

“There will definitely be crossovers between Grey’s and the spinoff show,” George told TV Line when asked about his new storyline on the spinoff. “I think kind of along the lines of what happened with Private Practice and Grey’s.”

Private Practice was a Grey’s spinoff that ran from 2007 to 2013, following Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Montgomery as she packed up her bags to move to Los Angeles where she joined a clinic. Throughout its run, the series crossed over with Grey’s Anatomy a handful of times.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news of George’s casting on the spinoff earlier this month, while the actor will still be a regular on season 14 of Grey’s Anatomy, he’ll be leaving behind his life as a doctor to head to the spinoff series once it starts filming. However, seeing as how the spinoff will be set in Seattle, we imagine there will be regular crossover events that will bring George back to Grey Sloane Memorial. After all, it’s a lot easier to justify characters dropping in on one another when they live in the same city!

For now our heads are spinning with possible crossover setups. Will the crossovers take place at the hospital, when Dr. Ben (or rather, firefighter Ben) needs help from the top surgeons he’s been friends with for so long? Or, will it be another Grey’s episode where there is a fire, and the firefighters of Seattle need to swoop in and rescue them? Well, have to wait and see, but any crossover is good news for fans of all-things Grey’s.

Grey’s Anatomy returns for season 14 on September 28, 2017 with a two-hour premiere on ABC.
