The time has come to bid farewell to the Heck family!
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Heaton, who plays everyone’s favorite mom Frankie Heck on the series, revealed that she’s been feeling a mix of emotions with regards to the series coming to an end.
“It just feels great and exciting and also scary and also sad,” said Heaton. “I look back at the first season and I see how young the kids were, and they didn’t seem that young to me at the time.”
One of the craziest things that’s been put into perspective for Heaton now that The Middle is ending is just how much the cast and crew have grown together over the past nine years.
“I look at Atticus [who plays Brick Heck], and I think, ‘Oh my word, he was just a baby,’” continued Heck. “When I started, I still had all my kids at home and now all my kids are gone, they’re all out of the house, so we’ve lived a lot of life together here on The Middle.”
As sad as it is to know that we’ll have to say goodbye to The Middle soon, it’s great to hear that Heaton and the rest of the cast will be walking away from the show with so many fond memories.
The Middle, which first premiered in 2009 on ABC, chronicles the ups and downs of parents Frankie and Mike Heck and their three children, Axl (Charlie McDermott), Sue Sue (Eden Sher), and Brick (Atticus Shaffer).
The series’ ninth and final season is set to premiere October 3 on ABC.
