This Is Us season 2 premieres this week, and when we reunite with the Pearson family, the Big Three are going to be in completely different places emotionally.
The first season of This Is Us introduced fans to the Pearson family, comprised of Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and their three children, biological twins Kevin (Justin Hartley) and Kate (Chrissy Metz), and their adopted brother Randall (Sterling K. Brown). The premiere episode will again have us seeing the siblings — aka The Big Three — but this time they’ll have each have a new challenge ahead of them.
In an interview with USA Today, Hartley opened up about where the show will find the trio when it returns.
“Kevin and Randall have cleared the air. There’s mutual respect and less resentment,” Hartley told USA Today. “Kevin and Kate are as close as ever, but understand they can live independently and still be successful, happy and healthy.”
According to USA Today, the new season will pick up with Kate in Los Angeles with her fiancé Toby (Chris Sullivan), while twin Kevin will be in the same area, but focusing on his acting career. As for Randall? His main focus this season will be trying to adopt a child — though it sounds like he’ll need to convince his wife, Beth, to really get on board with the idea.
“Beth is right by his side, but she doesn’t feel quite the same way about adoption,” Brown explained to USA Today. “They’re both going to take a little time to try to get on the same page.”
Considering the siblings seem to be in a better place at the start of season 2, we’ve got a feeling Randall will be turning to his brother and sister for support — and them to him!
